The Erosion of Trans Human Rights in the UK

We’ve produced a human rights analysis of the situation in the UK following the Supreme Court ruling that “sex” in the Equality Act 2010 means “biological sex”. In particular, we focus on what we consider to be the real risk of daily human rights violations for trans people across the UK if the Code of Practice consulted on by the EHRC in June 2025 following the ruling was to become statutory guidance, and be implemented widely by services across Britain.

Dignity is the cornerstone of all human rights, without which those rights are rendered meaningless. It is our view that the current situation in the UK must be urgently rectified and dignity restored – to ensure trans people’s human rights are properly protected and upheld.
